My name is Alexis Mayaka Bosire, and I am the founder of Kenya Sign Language Online Classes. I hold a B.Ed and an MBA in Finance, have trained in Special & Inclusive Education, and completed Digital Teaching for Educators in Israel. I am passionate about making communication accessible for all, and through my work, I aim to empower individuals to connect meaningfully with the Deaf community and promote an inclusive society.
Since April 2019, I have personally trained over 98,000 learners in Kenyan Sign Language (KSL). What began as a one-week free introductory course has grown into a comprehensive program with 36 topics. To meet student demand for certification, I partnered with EFA Institute in Mombasa, a licensed institution approved by NITA and TVETA, to offer Certificates of Proficiency at the end of our three-month course. While the full course covers all 36 topics, the free one-week lessons introduce the first four. I provide flexible learning options, including weekday classes, Saturday sessions, and individual lessons for busy learners. We also run separate classes for children above seven years old.
I am supported by a team of four online teaching assistants who guide students during and after classes, ensuring practical understanding and confidence in KSL. Our goal is to address the critical gap in communication, especially in sectors like health, where many Deaf individuals struggle to access services due to language barriers.
Looking ahead, my vision is to establish an affordable Regional Institute of Disability Studies, training professionals on supporting persons with disabilities, including hearing, visual, physical, mental impairments, autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and albinism. Through Kenya Sign Language Online Classes, we offer a full three-month course with registration, admission examinations, academic transcripts, a Letter of Completion, a Certificate of Proficiency, and 36 inclusive KSL video lessons making it possible for anyone, anywhere, to learn and use KSL confidently.
